Sakthi Fine Arts was founded in 2010 by Shri. Ramu Karuppiah and Smt. Devi Veerappan Karuppiah with the primary objective of promoting Indian Classical Dance, specifically Bharatanatyam, among children and adult students in Singapore. Their vision was to instill a deep appreciation for Indian tradition and heritage through arts.
Since its inception, Sakthi Fine Arts has maintained high-quality standards in teaching Bharatanatyam, catering to students of all ages—from kids and teens to adults. Devi Veerappan Karuppiah is a prominent figure in the realm of Indian classical arts in Singapore. Her vision and dedication have been instrumental in establishing Sakthi Fine Arts as a distinguished academy dedicated to teaching Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Music (Vocal) and traditional instrument Veena.
Devi's journey through Bharatanatyam is a testament to her unwavering dedication and multifaceted talents. She began her training at a young age under Smt. Madhavi Chandrasekharan in Trichy, mastering the foundational adavus of the Kalashestra style. Her skills blossomed under the mentorship of Guru Kalaimamani Dr. M.S. Sarala in Karaikudi, a senior disciple of Padma Vibhusan Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam culminating in her Arangetram in 1996 at the Kalaikoil Dance Academy, graced by distinguished guests including Justice Dr. AR. Lakshmanan.
Beyond her Arangetram, Devi continued to refine her artistry under Dr. M.S. Sarala's guidance, becoming one of the youngest teachers at the Kalaikoil Dance Academy. Alongside her dance journey, she pursued academic excellence, earning degrees in Commerce and Master’s in Business Administration. Despite successful roles as a Project Manager in APAA Chennai and Management Consultant in Singapore, her passion for Bharatanatyam led her to pursue a second Master’s Degree in Fine Arts (Bharatanatyam) under Padma Vibhusan Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam.
Devi's talents as a dancer and teacher shine through in her choreographies and presentations across Singapore, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Indonesia,. Her leadership at Sakthi Fine Arts has nurtured students who have excelled on international stages, promoting Indian culture and heritage through their performances.
Devi, with her expertise and passion for the arts, has nurtured numerous students, guiding them towards excellence in their respective disciplines. Under her leadership, Sakthi Fine Arts has grown to become a hub for cultural education, artistic collaboration, and performance.
Devi's profound passion for the Tamil language has driven her to cultivate a deep appreciation for it through the arts. She has innovatively integrated Tamil literature into Bharatanatyam through thematic Arangetrams, competitions, workshops and reading club showcasing classical Tamil works and their cultural significance.
The academy's Artistic Director, has focused on promoting Indian tradition, values, and aesthetics through structured learning curriculums and vibrant performances.
